Smart Infrastructure Planning
Questions to answer before deploying cameras, access control, intercoms or environmental sensors.
Start with the operational need
Define what must be seen, controlled, recorded or alerted on before selecting hardware.
Plan the network
Map PoE, switch capacity, VLANs, addressing, bandwidth, remote access and management placement.
Plan storage and retention
For video, estimate recording mode, bitrate, resolution, retention and recorder/storage capacity.
Plan identities and credentials
Define who administers the platform, how cards/fobs/mobile credentials are issued and how access is removed.
Connect events to action
A sensor or access event is useful only when the right person receives it and knows what to do.
Document the handoff
Record devices, network dependencies, user roles, routine SOPs and the vendor or trade responsibilities that remain outside IT.
Use the guide as a conversation starter
The guide clarifies ownership and preparation. It does not replace environment-specific engineering or security review.
