Managed IT Readiness

Questions to answer before outsourcing, restructuring or expanding day-to-day IT support.

Purpose: This is general operational guidance. Your environment, contracts, regulatory obligations and platform capabilities can change the right answer.

Inventory the environment

List users, endpoints, servers, network devices, cloud tenants, business applications, vendors and locations. The list does not have to be perfect, but it should reveal what support is expected to cover.

Define ownership

Decide who owns accounts, purchasing, vendor escalation, backups, security decisions, onboarding, offboarding and after-hours emergencies. Ambiguous ownership creates slow tickets.

Identify recurring pain

Look at repeated user issues, fragile systems, manual tasks and vendor problems. These usually provide more value than a generic list of devices.

Clarify the support model

Decide whether you want a primary IT team, co-managed support, specialist escalation or project help. A proposal is easier to compare when the operating model is clear.

Prepare access and documentation

Gather tenant ownership, domains, critical vendor contacts, network diagrams and emergency access procedures. Do not email privileged passwords in plain text.

Agree on success

Define what should improve after onboarding: fewer recurring issues, faster escalation, better patching, cleaner documentation, stronger security or better project capacity.

Use the guide as a conversation starter

A short checklist can expose unclear assumptions early, before they become change-window or incident problems.
