Cloud Migration Readiness

What to understand before moving mail, files, applications or infrastructure to a new cloud or tenant.

Purpose: This is general operational guidance. Your environment, contracts, regulatory obligations and platform capabilities can change the right answer.

Inventory identity and domains

Understand source and target accounts, domains, authentication, MFA and administrator ownership.

Map data and applications

Identify mailboxes, files, shared data, applications, databases and integrations that depend on the current environment.

Check DNS and mail flow

Record public DNS, MX records, aliases, connectors, certificates and other external dependencies.

Plan the user transition

Decide how users will sign in, when credentials change, how devices are updated and what communication they need.

Protect the source and target

Confirm backup, retention and rollback options before moving data.

Define cutover and cleanup

Know which changes happen during the maintenance window, how success is tested and which legacy systems can be retired later.

Use the guide as a conversation starter

The guide clarifies ownership and preparation. It does not replace environment-specific engineering or security review.
